Creating ringtones question

I just got a Kyocera Rave 404... just like the 414.

I can't figure out how to do my own ringtones.

When I bought one, it was delivered in a text message. But the tone was basically an attachment. It was in the message. Some ringtones you buy give you a link to navigate to. Apparently, my phone can't do the link thing.

I can get a text message on my phone through vtext.com... simply email myname@vtext.com and it goes to my phone. But I've tried sending a link to that or sending as an attachment with no luck.

Any tips, tricks, or websites?? I did a google and got a few good websites, but they don't seem to work with my phone.

I think it's crazy you can buy a song from iTunes for .99 but to get a MIDI ringtone it costs $2!!

Thanks

If you have a data cable or bluetooth, you can get a bunch of them for free.

It seems Verizon might be the problem. I've gone to several 3rd party ringtone sites and most don't support Verizon either!

I'm pretty sure that you can make your own ringtones from MIDI files and then move them over using a USB data cable and BitPim into the /user/sound/dnld directory.

I haven't tried it with that line of phones, but that is the way it was done with other Kyocera cell phones. One caveat - the low-end Kyocera phones tend to lock up if you move big files onto them. Try to keep your ringtones under 30 seconds and less than 128k each.

If you need detailed instructions, I suggest that you post your question on the HowardForums where they specialize in these things:

BitPim can be found here:
