Install in pairs.

Start with the inside slots and work out.

So your memory would be installed in the innermost 4 slots.

You are correct, the lights go on, fans but no video? I put a sata hard drive and IDE Sony DVE-RW Rom in it so I can test it and no video. Don't know how to test on Macs. I'm a PC Tech not a Mac Tech but I'm making a switch to the Mac but not like this!!!!

Welcome to the mac world, although I would have picked a much newer machine to be your introduction, the G5 is closer to a Pentium 4, single core then the current intel offerings.
If you need information and videos on installing memory in the mac, then I recommend that you go to either otherworld computing (www.macsales.com) or www.ifixit.com. They have installatikon guides that should be able to help you. In addition, on OWC's site you should find info on identifying whether you have the proper memory. If you want to test the memory, then there are a couple freeware programs you might be able to use ... go to www.macupdate.com and look for a program called memtest. As a windows person, you should feel right at home it a commandline program that looks a lot like a dos program. For more troubleshooting info, try www.xlr8yourmac.com.

Hope this helps.

Holy crap, that's a slap in the face, LOL. If that's what it's copmared to then I will just sell it on craigslist. I thought it would be fast because it is a quad 2.5 GHz. So then this piece of crap is like a P4 with Two hyper threading prcessors still running on old technology. I want to switch over to the mac side because I want to get in to video editing and I hear it's the platform to do it on and for other good reasons. Any good recomendations on what Mac to get for Video editing? Either I build one or I buy one on Black Friday, New or used, don't know. Thank's for the sites, I think that alone are good sites to get info on. I feel like I'm starting to learn computers all over again. Now I need all the good sites to go to for info and gather some more Mac techs for Networking. Thank's again any help is greatly appreciated, any sites and so on. I'm looking for a good deal on a Mac-Pro, I guess.

There are no good deals on Mac Pro models, except maybe lucking into one being dumped on Craigslist for half price. The new 27" iMac with a quad core processor is $2000 and comes with a 27" screen that is not available anywhere else (yet). About the only reason to get a $2500 single socket Mac Pro is if you have decided you need the option to put in an eSATA card or better video card in the future.

Well, that quad is about 3 years old.

Its still got legs, but nothing like a new Intel chipped Mac. (certainly better than a P4)

Whats your budget? Thats where you have to start. Apple rarely has deals on Black Friday.

You could build a Hackintosh, not exceptionally hard, but there are some limitations. A google search should point you in the right direction.

Im assuming if you are going to do video editing you are going to use Final Cut Studio? Thats $999 all by itself. Did you budget for that?

Software I'm not worried about, hopefuly I can get it like I do on the PC side? As ar as budget, I can spend what I need to spend in order I get a good deal. I'm hopeing the closer to christmas it gets, I can get a better deal, I hope. Just need to know what I'm looking for. Meanwhile I will educate myself on the Mac platform. I was just reading on the apple site about The “Nehalem” advantage processor. Is this what I should be looking for to stay ahead of the game or?

You mean download it from a torrent site and steal it? You men go to the store and buy it?

Sorry, there will be no deals on Macs closer to X-mas.

*Maybe* there might be a small percentage discount on BF, but I wouldnt count on it.

You budget determines what you should buy.

I get my software on deals like I am going to a presentation given by Microsoft [www.oemsalescenter.com]

For $189.00

The DIY kit contains:
•One full version Windows 7 Ultimate Not For Resale (NFR) copy
•AMD Athlon II X4 620 quad-core processor
•Asus motherboard with AMD 785G integrated graphics chipset

That's how I get my deals on the PC side.
My budget could be around 2,000 more if i'm getting a good deal.

I have never seen a deal like that on the Mac side, but then again, I have never looked.

$2000ish could get you a new 21" iMac + $999 FCS.

Sorry... I didn't mean to knock your choice of a machine. Couldn't tell from your email that you were buying this machine for yourself, it sounded (to me) as you were upgrading a machine for a customer. The quad G5 is a great machine and very usable, but the processor is dead end so far as using current/future releases of video editing and graphics software (ie: photoshop, after effects, illustrator). And one of the best reasons to go mac in video editing, final cut pro's current and future versions, won't run on the G5. In my opinion, there have been enough improvements, interface changes, etc, that it would be better to go with the current versions then the ones that will run on the G5, hence you might want to look into a newer intel.

Do you mean a newer intel base mac? The G5 was gong to be my learning Mac but after the time and efferts it would take to get it going, I Dont think it's worth it. Now on the G5 I got as far as Two Red light next to the memory are lit, Number 1 and 5. I looked on the Mac site for the erro and it said contact your Mac dealer. If I had parts to switch out and test would be great like I do on the PC side. I think I will just go and look for a deal on a Mac. What Mac would you recomend for Video editing and not being left behind the curve? I believe it would have to be a Mac-PRO.

How intensive is this video editing you are talking about?

Are you doing this on a PC now? What are its specs?

You wont find a Macpro for "cheap", think $1500+ stripped.

If its mostly basic video, any recent iMac will work more than fine.
