How much electricity does an iMac use if left on 24/7

If the monitor is set to sleep but the computer left on, how much in electricity would it cost? I'm using a 24 inch aluminum iMac.

The current, energy-efficient, 27" consumes 11W in sleep mode, so the 24" is probably at 15W for sleep. How much it would cost depends on where you live.

Are times that tight that this electrical thing is a concern? Yikes-O-Mighty. Unplugging the fridge for 24 hrs. & never opening the door would make up for a couple of months & then some for leaving the iMac on. (Turning it off every time you leave would put you on Al Gore's Christmas card list.)

Off: 0.78W
Sleep: 1.81W
Idle-Display off: 40.5W

The new 27" iMac uses about the same:

Off: 0.83W
Sleep: 1.75W
Idle-Display off: 49.2W

No, much less than those numbers--see above.

Just used Kill-A-Watt to check out my early 2009 24" iMac 3.06Ghz with Nvidia GeForce GT130 video card. With monitor on and machine not doing anything uses 98 Watts - with monitor off and not doing anything uses 39 Watts - with the machine asleep it uses 1 Watt.

You'll have to do your own calculations based on your electrical rate.

Unless I have a process working, I automatically put my 3 machines to sleep when I leave the room for awhile. I use the keyboard command Option-Command-Eject to put it to sleep, which I can do even as I get out of my chair. Beats selecting "Sleep" with the mouse.

That's why I'm asking. If it isn't that much than I will schedule it to say on during the day and maybe sleep late at night. I want to stream music from the computer to my iPhone using the app Simplify Media (works great) but not if it's going to cost me $20 a month or something outrageous like that.

I just bought a Early 2009 iMac 24" (3Ghz). I would like to just put it to sleep, rather than start it up. The wattage in sleep sounds really nice and low. If I use the "wake on network access" does that change the watts much? Does this feature work well---does it really wake up when I need to share music from it, for example?

Easier than the keyboard shortcut is just reach around and hit the power button to make the mac go to sleep
