I am new to the PC world.Bought an Acer 10.1 netbook, and a USB CD/DVD player ,reader writer.Plugged it in the machine, and said I did not have proper plug in or something of that nature for windows media player to work. The manual that came with player did not address this issue,so I am at a loss as what to do next. The machine came with Windows XP,and the device was recognized, but no go on showing the movie. Is there a simple solution for this problem?Thanx

I remember a problem like this back when I was running Win98SE. My first suggestion is to see if updating to a newer version of Windows Media Player allows you to play movies.

If that does not work then try a CODEC pack like Gordian Knot that has some DivX support.

Thanx for all of your suggestions.I concluded that the Acer, since it had no optical drive, did not have the decoder,so I did download and install the VLC media player.Works like a champ.Any one who buys this machine ,take note, and download a decoder.Again, thanx very much to all of you!!

VLC is a very good program but it still has some serious problems. It crashes and does not enable all the functions properly, like Media Center controls.
