used cell seller?

I posted this in the other forum ... thought I'd do it here too... thanks for any info....
My friend's pay as you go cell phone is on the fritz and I was wondering if anyone had a good online seller to recommend. The phone has a sim card (att) so we're really only looking for a cheap used basic (no pda or smartphone functions needed) phone. Based on past experience, she would need to test the phone to see if it can recieve in the marginal signal area where she works. Hence a seller who would take back or swap the phone is essential.

It has been a while since I tried something like this but how about a $15 Tracphone at Walgreens or RiteAID, and then swap your SIM card into it?

I'm really just looking for a used cell phone seller. Have you tried doing this kind of swap? I was told by someone who tried it that unless you were going between one tracfon and another, then it didn't work. In this case, the phone is an att/cingular, so I was looking for another att. Also, I suspect that returning or exchanging it (remember the marginal signal conditions) would not be possible.

1. I wish you and your friend luck, but I would be surprised (borderline shocked) if you could find a company/store (even online) that would agree to refund the money to the buyer of a WORKING, used cell phone.

2. Is there any particular reason you want to buy a used phone? If you are talking just a bare-bones cell phone (and not a smart phone), you can buy NEW ones for probably $30 or less, and then you would at least have some sort of warranty with it. Because there is almost no market for used, cheap-o non-smartphones, you may actually have a much larger selection available to you by buying new rather than used.

Just an update, my friend found a replacement phone at [www.craytonelectronics.com]. They were quite cooperative and swapped the first purchase (a Samsung) for an LG that had better reception/performance. The sim from the original phone worked fine to transfer over all the telephone number, account information, etc. The whole point of buying a replacement phone was to retain the same number, and account info.... I wish more domestic cell companies used the sim card, it makes every thing much easier.
